Pit Tagging at Careysville
Careysville Fishery in conjunction with the Central Regional Fisheries Board are now tagging some of the salmon that we are returning. The yellow "Floy tags" contain a "Pit Tag" which registers when the fish goes through the new fish counter at Clondulane. The main aim of this long term project is to be able to work out a more accurate figure for the number of salmon running the R.Blackwater. The yellow "Floy tags" are clearly visible on the back of the salmon, rear of the dorsal fin and are around 1.5" long. Anyone catching or finding a fish with this tag, should phone the number on the tag and give the tag number.
Drought Continues
The Spring & Summer long drought continues despite the incorrect forecasts of rain. The river is nearly as low as it can go and there are many many salmon waiting to run once the weather eventually breaks. We religiously watch forecast in hope of seeing an approaching south westerly weather front carrying allot of rain.
